Fix TikTok invalid_scope

What TikTok invalid_scope means for Postifys connections and how to recover by reconnecting with approved scopes.

Reviewed: 2026-08-10

Answer: invalid_scope means the TikTok connection lacks a scope required for the selected method. Reconnect TikTok so the approved Postifys app can request video.publish for Direct Post and video.upload for Draft Upload.

What this means in a real publishing workflow

TikTok invalid_scope is an OAuth configuration or app-approval problem. It occurs before media publishing and cannot be fixed by retrying the video.

Recommended implementation

  1. Compare the requested scopes with those enabled for the TikTok app.
  2. Use the exact production redirect URI registered with TikTok.
  3. Remove unsupported scopes from the authorization request.
  4. Reconnect the creator after the app configuration is corrected.

How to verify the fix

Development and production apps can have different approved products. Confirm the domain, client key, redirect URI, and enabled Content Posting capabilities all belong to the same TikTok app.

Operational check: Test with one item, confirm the final destination and Postifys history state, and only then enable the recurring workflow. Keep the returned Postifys ID beside the source row so every result remains traceable.

Preventing repeat invalid_scope failures

After reconnecting TikTok, regenerate the Postifys API key only if your automation still targets an old account context. Document which TikTok capability your app is approved for so staging and production workflows do not mix Direct Post and Draft Upload assumptions.
